Couples EMDR Therapy for BIPOC, QTBIPOC, & Interracial Couples
EMDR for couples is a powerful therapeutic approach that can help couples heal trauma, communication breakdowns, and relational misattunement experiences that impact their relationship. This trauma-informed approach uses bilateral eye movements or other forms of rhythmic, left-right stimulation to help couples process traumatic memories and experiences. The work within these sessions involves us getting to know each other, working together to map out memories you’d like to target together, and building resources in preparation for your reprocessing. Reprocessing sessions may involve one partner actively processing trauma while the other partner serves as a witness and resourcing partner or both partners processing simultaneously. All of the work within these sessions is paced to each partner’s nervous system.
The Art of Healing offers EMDR to couples who have an individual or shared traumatic experience in their adult lives that is impacting the relationship.
These sessions are offered as 90 minutes. These sessions are also offered as EMDR Intensives. Couples EMDR Intensives include a 90 minute initial session and are offered as 2, 3, or 4 hour sessions.
If you are a Black or Brown lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, trans/nonbinary/GNC, or two-spirit person who has experienced a traumatic or distressing event within the last three months, please reach out to our program, Rooted Together, for information about free trauma therapy support.
